CURIOSITY

2022
handmade paper, collage, yarn, acrylic
17 x 17"

This piece quotes a poem the artist wrote in early 2020 and encompasses the feelings of fleeting life and moments passing by too fast to appreciate.

The artist naively wonders if their life will remain the same as they age, bringing all the worst parts of adolescence into adulthood. It’s hard to differentiate between the present moment and the future, especially when the now feels so unending. This piece acts as a reminder to live with no hope or expectation for the future, and to instead embrace the present for all it is.
The poem reads as follows:

Trust me when I say I want a crystal ball for all the normal, selfish reasons. I’m curious if, when I’m 30, I can still smell
$1 lasagna while I sleep? Do the streets mock me
in the same way? Do I have skin? They say
curiosity killed the cat and I’m a pussy so I may as well die now.
